Avoiding strange attractors in efficient parametric families of iterative methods for solving nonlinear problems
2019
[EN] Searching zeros of nonlinear functions often employs iterative procedures. In this paper, we construct several families of iterative methods with memory from one without memory, that is, we have increased the order of convergence without adding new functional evaluations. The main aim of this manuscript yields in the advantage that the use of real multidimensional dynamics gives us to decide among the different classes designed and, afterwards, to select its most stable members. Moreover, we have found some elements of the family whose behavior includes strange attractors of different kinds that must be avoided in practice. In this sense, Feigenbaum diagrams have resulted an extremely …
System identification via optimised wavelet-based neural networks
2003
Nonlinear system identification by means of wavelet-based neural networks (WBNNs) is presented. An iterative method is proposed, based on a way of combining genetic algorithms (GAs) and least-square techniques with the aim of avoiding redundancy in the representation of the function. GAs are used for optimal selection of the structure of the WBNN and the parameters of the transfer function of its neurones. Least-square techniques are used to update the weights of the net. The basic criterion of the method is the addition of a new neurone, at a generic step, to the already constructed WBNN so that no modification to the parameters of its neurones is required. Simulation experiments and compa…
Iterative altitude-aiding algorithm for improved GNSS positioning
2011
The system proposed in this study relies on a WAVE P2P network, which is a proper standard to fit the vehicular environment wireless communications requests. Starting from the chance to exchange information given by this infrastructure, the possibility to improve the performance of a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver based on a Kalman filter is considered. This improvement is obtained exploiting the external altitude measurements provided by other peers in the network, equipped with GNSS receivers. The topic of an altitude-aided system has been described in a previous work, that highlighted the need for a parameter that points out the effectiveness and the consistency of th…
Wardowski conditions to the coincidence problem
2015
In this article we first discuss the existence and uniqueness of a solution for the coincidence problem: Find p ∈ X such that Tp = Sp, where X is a nonempty set, Y is a complete metric space, and T, S:X → Y are two mappings satisfying a Wardowski type condition of contractivity. Later on, we will state the convergence of the Picard-Juncgk iteration process to the above coincidence problem as well as a rate of convergence for this iteration scheme. Finally, we shall apply our results to study the existence and uniqueness of a solution as well as the convergence of the Picard-Juncgk iteration process toward the solution of a second order differential equation. Evaluating a hierarchical approach to landscape level harvest scheduling
2018
Forest planning at the landscape level has the potential to become a large intractable problem. In Finland, Metsähallitus (the state enterprise that manages federally owned land) creates strategic plans to determine the appropriate harvest level. While these plans are feasible, they are not implementable in practice as the harvests are scattered temporally and spatially. Requiring that harvests be organized both temporally and spatially for practical implementation can result in an intractable problem. Through a hierarchical approach, the problem can be organized into steps in which the intractable problem is broken down into smaller easily solvable parts. As an approximation technique, the…
Advanced techniques for solving groundwater and surface water problems in the context of inverse methods and climate change.
2021
An analytical model for PQ sources in backward/forward methods for distribution networks analysis
2004
In this paper a model of PQ sources useful for distribution systems analysis is developed. In the considered systems there are, in addition to HV/MV sources, other PQ buses, namely active and reactive power supply nodes (Vδ nodes). The general solution strategy is an iterative forward/backward method, in which the state variables are the node voltages. If it is weakly meshed, the network is turned into radial by means of cuts and compensation currents. After the presentation of the general problem, the equations expressing the unknowns for the PQ nodes are treated in detail. These equations belong to the backward sweep of the algorithm. The methodology has been implemented and applied so as…
Integrating risk management tools for regional forest planning : an interactive multiobjective value at risk approach
2018
In this paper, we present an approach employing multiobjective optimization to support decision making in forest management planning under risk. The primary objectives are biodiversity and timber cash flow, evaluated from two perspectives: the expected value and the value-at-risk (VaR). In addition, the risk level for both the timber cash flow and biodiversity values are included as objectives. With our approach, we highlight the trade-off between the expected value and the VaR, as well as between the VaRs of the two objectives of interest. We employ an interactive method in which a decision maker iteratively provides preference information to find the most preferred management plan and lea…
The CC3 model : An iterative coupled cluster approach including connected triples
1997
An alternative derivation of many-body perturbation theory (MBPT) has been given, where a coupled cluster parametrization is used for the wave function and the method of undetermined Lagrange multipliers is applied to set up a variational coupled cluster energy expression. In this variational formulation, the nth-order amplitudes determine the energy to order 2n+1 and the nth-order multipliers determine the energy to order 2n+2. We have developed an iterative approximate coupled cluster singles, doubles, and triples model CC3, where the triples amplitudes are correct through second order and the singles amplitudes are treated without approximations due to the unique role of singles as appro…
Detection of Signals in MC–CDMA Using a Novel Iterative Block Decision Feedback Equalizer
2022
This paper presents a technique to mitigate multiple access interference (MAI) in multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) wireless communications systems. Although under normal circumstances the MC-CDMA system can achieve high spectral efficiency and resistance towards inter symbol interference (ISI) however when exposed to substantial nonlinear distortion the issue of MAI manifests. Such distortion results when the power amplifiers are driven into saturation or when the transmit signal experiences extreme adverse channel conditions. The proposed technique uses a modified iterative block decision feedback equalizer (IB-DFE) that uses a minimal mean square error (MMSE) receiver …
